{"id":28198,"date":"2018-06-15T09:02:30","date_gmt":"2018-06-15T09:02:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/v2.ecomnewsmed.com.ecn-01.ovea.com\/2018\/06\/15\/lebanons-electricity-reform-raed-khoury-amends-the-resolution-n1-135-e-t\/"},"modified":"2020-08-11T11:33:22","modified_gmt":"2020-08-11T09:33:22","slug":"lebanons-electricity-reform-raed-khoury-amends-the-resolution-n1-135-e-t","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.ecomnewsmed.com\/en\/2018\/06\/15\/lebanons-electricity-reform-raed-khoury-amends-the-resolution-n1-135-e-t\/","title":{"rendered":"Lebanon\u2019s electricity reform: Raed Khoury amends the resolution n\u00b01\/135\/E.T"},"content":"\nLebanon\u2019s electricity crisis is not new as it dates back to the civil war (1975-1990), when the electricity infrastructure was subjected to a great damage.\nAfter that, the government of Lebanon launched between 1992 and 2002 an emergency rehabilitation plan which to date has consumed 33% of the reconstruction budget and proved to be inefficient as the government\u2019s quick-fix solutions still constrained by a limited budget, the electricity demand exceeds the supply and its production remained dependent on oil prices. \nInformal generators play therefore a very important role for many Lebanese citizens to improve their access to public infrastructure services, ensure an uninterrupted current supply of power and cover their needs for electricity. \nThus, the Lebanese are paying a double electrical tariff, one for the Electricit\u00e9 du Liban (EDL) and the other for the owners of generators, while experiencing the most unreliable service in the region. \nTo resolve Lebanon\u2019s Electricity crisis, Raed Khoury issued an amendment to the resolution n\u00b01\/135\/E to promote private sector participation, identify and establish formal guidelines for the private generators.\nRaed Khoury\u2019s plan to improve the tariff regulation mechanism\nMinister of Economy and Trade Raed Khoury issued an amendment to the resolution n\u00b01\/135\/E.T, jointly rendered with the Minister of Energy and Water, C\u00e9sar Abi, and the private generators.
