According to recent government data, the volume of product exports reached 5.6 million tonnes, an increase of about 487,000 tonnes from the previous year and a new record.\n\n \n \n\n\n \n \n \nAccording to Sayed El-Quseir, Minister of Agriculture, this performance is the crowning achievement of efforts not only to conquer new markets, but also to improve the quality level of goods by strengthening phytosanitary controls before shipment.\n\n \n \n\n\n \n \n \nIn detail, citrus fruits represent the first item of shipments with a stock of 1.8 million tonnes. Next come beets (650,340 tonnes), potatoes (614,424 tonnes), onions (276,141 tonnes) and grapes (143,450 tonnes).\n\n \n \n\n\n \n \n \nOverall, this positive result testifies to the resilience of Egyptian agriculture in the face of the various logistical disruptions linked to the coronavirus pandemic during the past year.\n\n \n \n\n\n \n \n \nIn a country where arable land covers only less than 5% of the territory, the sector employs 55% of the workforce in rural areas.
