This is a rise of 4,3% of the trade between Egypt and Turkey registered in 2017. Announced by Tarek Kabil, the Ministry of Trade, the bilateral economic relations between the two have more in common than what we can think.
The trade volume registered in 2017 was of 4,35 billion dollars compared to 4,17 billion dollars in 2016. But if we look deeper in the Egyptian export to Turkey that reached almost 2 billion dollars, we can see a significant rise of 38,5%. Indeed three industrial sectors represented almost 80% of the total export: chemical products, textiles and clothing activities.
On the reverse, total import from Turkey to Egypt decreased by 13,7%.
Egypt confirms a leadership toward Turkey export: the country is the second most important provider of Turkey after the United Arab Emirates. In 2016, 53% was the coverage of imports by exports against 85% registered in 2017
A better situation allowing Egyptian officials to dream of a trade recovery.
