To fill its electricity supply gap, the Libyan government has entered into talks with the Egyptian state. It is a question of finding quick solutions as the country has faced a series of power cuts for several weeks.
On September 6, Libyan and Egyptian energy officials met in Cairo to discuss improving Egypt’s electricity supply to Libya. An approach that aims to meet the electricity supply deficit that Libya has been facing for several weeks and meet the demand which will increase further during the coming winter.
With the clashes in Libya and the embargo on the activities of certain fields, several power plants have ceased to be supplied with fuel, which has drastically reduced the supply of electricity.
During this meeting, it was also agreed to proceed with the strengthening of the Egyptian-Libyan connection lines and to work on the finalization of the maintenance works as soon as possible in order to guarantee their functioning.
Libya produces 4,250 MW of electricity and consumes 6,750 MW of it. It is therefore currently recording a production deficit of around 2,500 MW.
