The owned State company Sonatrach is currently negotiating with the Iraqi Ministry of Oil, Jabbar Alluaibi. A pre-agreement has been signed on petroleum transport and exploration as well as discussions over the liquefied local gas market of Iraq. The Iraqi oil field Nassiriya was targeted by Sonatrach.

It appears quite clear now that the Algerian government is trying to play a role in the Iraqi international distribution of oil. Iraqi officials rely on the Algerian expertise in oil to promote the precious raw material and contribute to the GDP relaunch. The agreement could provide solutions to petroleum transportation and oil exploration over the Nassiriya field.

Abdelmoumen Ould Kaddour, the Sonatrach CEO sign with Dhia Kamar Safar from the technical department of the Iraqi Ministry of Oil an agreement to reinforce a partnership.

In January, they already considered possibilities to develop Algerian Sonatrach investments into the local Iraqi oil market.

The liquid gas market could endorse as well Algerian skills. At a local level, a project could ensure a liaison between the Iraqi main cities with the Iraqi gas network.
