In a context of rising world oil prices and fuel prices, the Libyan authorities are aiming for self-sufficiency in fuel. Thus, NOC President Farhat Ben Gdara announced on March 26, 2023 that operations to install an oil refinery in the south will begin within 3 years.
In this sense, a contract was signed between Zallaf Libyan Oil & Gas Company, a 100% subsidiary of NOC.
The project, which amounts to 500 or even 600 MUSD, aims to process approximately 30,000 barrels of crude oil per day in order to produce various petroleum products, including 1.4 million liters of gasoline per day and 1.1 million liters of diesel per day.
It will also produce domestic gas, aviation fuel, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for domestic and industrial use, fuel for power generation and asphalt.
According to NOC leader, Honeywell will implement smart technology solutions in oil and gas facilities for condensation, recycling processes, converting gas emissions into feedstocks and delivering them to power plants electrical.
