It is the final stretch before the parliamentary elections on the 9th of April. Next week, Israelis will go to the polls to elect a new Parliament and choose a Prime Minister. After a complicated start to the campaign, the current head of government Benyamin Netanyahu (Likud, nationalist extreme right-wing) has managed to rebound and it is not impossible that he will succeed in winning the confidence of voters for the 5th time.

For the first time in 10 years, Benyamin Netanyahu is facing real competition. One of his main opponents, Yair Lapid, decided to join forces with three former chiefs of staff (Benny Gantz, Gabi Ashkenazi, Moshe Yaalon) to bring Netanyahu down.

To achieve this goal, the Gantz-Lapid alliance will not only have to succeed in getting to the top of the elections but will also have to broaden its base by finding allies willing to participate in a coalition. For his part, the Israeli head of government intends to rely on his traditional allies (nationalist right-wing and religious parties) to form a coalition after the elections.

Even if he finished second, Benyamin Netanyahu could manage to remain Prime Minister thanks to the alliance game.

A decline in the Blue-White party and Gantz holds an offensive speech against Netanyahu

After being ahead in the game, the latest polls show a decline in the Blue-White list of Benny Gantz and Yair Lapid. Their party is now credited with 30 seats (out of 120 in the Parliament) compared to 31 for Benyamin Netanyahu’s Likud.

With one week to go before the election, the Israeli Prime Minister seems to have become the election’s favorite again. If he won, Benyamin Netanyahu would exceed the longevity record set by state founder David Ben Gurion as Prime Minister.

The leader of the Israeli political party Blue-White, Benny Gantz held a particularly offensive speech on Monday afternoon against his main competitor, Benyamin Netanyahu. “He is under pressure because he will lose,” Gantz said about the Israeli Prime Minister.

The studies that were published this morning show that Netanyahu is conducting a campaign of terror of conscience among Israeli citizens,” continued the leader of the Blue-White Party. According to an Israeli monitoring group, false accounts are being used on social networks to defame opponents of the current Israeli Prime Minister in preparation for next week’s elections. “Israelis are flooded with false news on social networks, Netanyahu does not hesitate to use lies and manipulation,” continued Benny Gantz, who said there was a “theft of elections by Likud”.
