Minister spoke by videoconference at a ceremony on September 15th. She recalled that the new coronavirus pandemic has affected all countries and international trade.

Welcoming the performance of her country and the factors that positively distinguish it from other, Pekcan said : “Turkey will be one of the countries that will recover the most quickly in 2021 [after a 9.9 % GDP decrease from April to June 2020], with the improvement of conditions regarding our external markets.”

“According to the World Bank report, the pandemic has provoked the most severe period of decline since World War II, Pekcan added. The pandemic has had impacts on trade, prices of goods, as oil barrel has fallen below $ 20.”

Pekcan said European Union (EU) recorded a growth rate of -14.1% in the second quarter of the current year.

“The International Monetary Fund forecasts a global growth rate of -4.9% in 2020, she added. As for international trade, the World Trade Organization forecasts a growth rate between -12.9% and -31.9%.”
