The Ministry of Tourism counts 58,765 hotel nights in the West Bank during the first half of 2021, but none in Bethlehem during this period, a city particularly linked to international pilgrimages. 10,000 jobs would be affected.

Released on the occasion of World Tourism Day, a report from the Central Bureau of Statistics and the Ministry of Tourism shows that the performance of the sector continues to decline due to the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly in the governorate of Bethlehem, which, before the health crisis, concentrated 60% of the total number of visitors to the West Bank.

The report counts 58,765 hotel nights in the West Bank during the first half of 2021, but none in Bethlehem during this period, a city particularly linked to international pilgrimages. 77.2% of hotel guests in the West Bank are Palestinians residing in Israel, 22.5% are local residents, and only 0.3% are international visitors.

The estimated losses of the tourism sector in 2020 reached $ 1.021 billion, and affected more than 10,000 jobs in the governorate of Bethlehem alone.
