On the occasion of International Population Day, the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) presented the structure and distribution of the Palestinian population.
Based on population estimates prepared by PCBS, there are approximately 14.3 million Palestinians in the world as of mid-2022, of which approximately 5.35 million are in the State of Palestine (2.72 million and 2.63 million women).
The estimated population in the West Bank was 3.19 million (1.62 million men and 1.57 million women). While the estimated population of the Gaza Strip was 2.17 million (1.10 million men and 1.07 million women).
The fertility index during the period 2017-2019 decreased to 3.8 births, compared to 4.6 births during the period 1999-2003; 3.8 births in the West Bank and 3.9 births in the Gaza Strip.
On the other hand, the fertility rate was 3.8 births in urban areas against 4.4 births in rural areas and 3.5 births in Palestinian refugee camps.
The results also showed that 26% of the labor force was unemployed in 2021 (16% in the West Bank and 47% in the Gaza Strip). The unemployment rate has reached 43% among women against 22% among men
