The American giant KFC is one of the main players in the fast food segment in Morocco. After opening three stores in 2021, the company plans to further expand its presence in the North African country in 2022.
Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), the American fast food chain specializing in chicken cooked on site, has announced the opening of 10 new outlets in Morocco this year. This expansion plan, the total cost of which has not been disclosed, will allow the company to bring the total number of its brands to 30 in the Cherifian Kingdom.
The approach, which is taking place despite the slowdown linked to the coronavirus, aims to strengthen the group’s presence in the Moroccan fast food market, the dynamism of which has attracted several other players in recent years, such as Pizza Hut, Burger King and Dominos.
Indeed, it is the fastest growing category in the services sector with a valuation of $3.3 billion in 2019 according to data from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). The two main cities that drive the development of the industry are Casablanca and Marrakech respectively economic and tourist poles of the country.
Established in Morocco since 2001, KFC currently has 450 employees there. Overall in Africa, the company has a presence in nearly 22 countries.
