Over the past year, air traffic passing through the country's airports has improved compared to 2020 with increases of +38.9% for passengers, +42% for airport movements and +13.94% for air freight

The National Airports Office has just released the air traffic figures for 2021. During the past year, which has been marked by the persistence of the health crisis, the Kingdom’s airports have experienced an improvement in their traffic situation. air compared to the year 2020.

In 2021, they recorded a volume of commercial passenger traffic of 9,938,607 passengers, more than a third of which recorded during the period from June 15 to August 31, compared to 7,155,091 passengers welcomed during the year 2020. This represents an increase of the +38.9% order.

During the 2021 summer season, and with the resumption of international flights coinciding with the launch, under the aegis of the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, of Operation Marhaba 2021, international air traffic recorded a good performance with more than 3.56 million passengers through 31,255 flights during the period from June 15 to August 31, 2021, an increase of around +64.67% compared to the same period of 2019.

With 4,150,015 passengers, Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca recorded an increase in traffic of +38.4% in 2021 compared to 2020 and a drop of around -59.76 % compared to the year 2019. The airports of Tetouan, Guélmim, Dakhla, Nador and Tangier are those which recorded the highest growth rates compared to the traffic of the year 2019 (respectively 153%, 87%, 76%, 75% and 64%).

With 1,582,220 passengers welcomed in 2021, domestic air traffic recorded an increase of +39.60% compared to 2020 and a decline of around -47.37% compared to 2019 Up +38.77% compared to 2020 and down -62.13% compared to 2019, international air traffic recorded 8,356,387 passengers. This traffic represents 84% ​​of global air traffic.

The best performances were recorded in North America (+82.38%), Europe (+42.53%) and the Middle and Far East (+33.8%) compared to the year 2020.

During the year 2021, there were 104,036 airport movements, a figure up by +42.02% compared to the year 2020 and down by -50.59% compared to the year 2019. this traffic, the share of Mohammed V airport is 43.34%, Marrakech Menara (14.26%) and Tangier Ibn Battouta (9.54%). Air freight recorded during the year 2021 an increase of around +13.94% compared to 2020 and a decrease of -27.19% compared to 2019. It stood at 69,981, 49 tonnes compared to 61,419.26 tonnes in 2020 and 96,120.76 in 2019.

In the Top 5 international air routes from Morocco, Casablanca Mohammed V-Paris Orly comes first with 332,044 passengers. It is ahead of Casablanca Mohammed-Paris CDG (242,809 passengers), Marrakech-Paris Orly (196,85 passengers), Oujda-Paris Orly (166,506 passengers), Casablanca Mohammed V-Istambul (161,705 passengers).
