Egypt is multiplying partnerships as part of the modernization of its rail sector. The scope of the current projects involves colossal investments, as well as the use of cutting-edge technical expertise.
Egypt and South Korea have signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the field of rail transport. It was on the occasion of the visit to Cairo of the South Korean Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Noh Hyeong-ouk.
The Egyptian Ministry of Transport indicated in a press release that the aspects covered by this agreement concern, among other things, the upgrading of the signaling system and mobile metro units, as well as the training of workers who will operate the railway infrastructure and equipment. .
This collaboration with the South Koreans is marked by numerous contracts signed with the multinational Hyundai Rotem, in particular for the design of several hundred metro cars for the 2nd and 3rd lines of the Cairo metro, the local construction of locomotives and electric trains , as well as the modernization of signage.
The development of the railways constitutes a major axis of the Egyptian transport policy. The country, which has experienced many train accidents, wants to improve its infrastructure, rolling units, as well as the skills of the personnel assigned to this sector. The operationalization of these projects will also make it possible to achieve the modal shift objective targeted by the government.
