After a three-year embargo, following the Gulf crisis, Qatar has begun a process of warming its relations with several Arab countries. Egypt is also following this logic, through the reopening of its airspace in Qatar.
The European Investment Bank (EIB) will grant € 1.1 billion to Egypt to finance at least three urban transport projects. € 600 million will be granted in December 2020 while the last tranche will be disbursed in January 2021.
Half of these funds will go to sustainable transport projects and 30% to the construction of new cities which will benefit from a good part of the transport infrastructure.
